life is starting to return to normal finally. let's send it over to meteorologist lynette charles. >> happy birthday. >> let's talk about what's going on right now on maryland's most powerful radar because we are picking up on some light showers, rain showers, especially back towards the west, carroll county, frederick county getting in on that. further to the north and west you go running into a mixed bag of presip across that area. all in all we will stay dry today just like yesterday temperatures comi degrees in sykesville. we are chilly. some of you might think it's cold so we'll go chilly, cold for today. the chilly weather will continue into the afternoon, but west friendship is at 42 degrees. we're at 46 degrees in easton. also those winds picking up as we go throughout the day. we will continue to be in that cold flow with that northwesterly wind at 5 to 15 miles an hour. this is what you can expect through the day. mostly collide with a -- cloudy

skies with a lunchtime temperature of 52. good morning. good morning lynette, we are still dealing with power outages across the region. if you approach an intersection without a working traffic light, treat it as a four-way stop. you're taking a live look in howard county at interstate 70. no problems to report all the way over to 695. this is what the beltway looks like at liberty road, no delays whatsoever. a typical 11-minute ride on the outer loop from 795 down towards 95. the beltway will remain in great shape from parkville all the way up to towson, and if you are using the northeast corridor of 95 in white marsh no delays in route 43 to the beltway. that a look at your abc2 time saver traffic. it's 5:31 right now. they are the men and women we turn to in emergency situations. this morning emergency responders from maryland are heading to new jersey to help storm victims. linda so is joining us right now.

and how's the city pitching in? >> reporter: they're sending their own emergency personnel to help storm victims in new jersey, two ambulances, an suv and five people are heading up from baltimore. they left at 5 this morning from the public safety training academy on northern parkway. this is video of the crew getting ready about an hour ago. they packed up and loaded up the ambulances with emergency supplies, things like bandages back boards and splints. once they get to new jersey, atlantic county, they will be responding to 9-1-1 calls and doing anything to help out. they're heading to atlantic county, an area devastated by the storm. they're on their way to flooded out areas where homes were destroyed. they'll be joined by several other medics to help with recovery. the team will be making a quick stop in elkton to meet up with other medic crews from maryland that will be heading to new jersey to help. they're expected to get there by about 9 this morning and to spend the next seven to ten

days helping storm victims. the national guard troops are aiding local authorities in the wake of hurricane sandy in salisbury. look at this, crews there working to rescue people from water logged homes. that city is one of many swamped by the super storm's heavy rains and the river like waters even unearthed a couple caskets. this happened at a cemetery in crisfield. those corpses remained in the caskets. the death toll from sandy is up now to four here in our state. it turns out that a contractor working on tree removal in annapolis was killed when one of those trees fell on top of him. it happened yesterday afternoon. another man died earlier this week when a tree fell on his house. the other two deaths were related to car crashes and sandy. as cleanup continues in new york and new jersey, we are receiving incredible videos, search and recovery videos in the efforts of this disaster zone. this is video there helicopter 23 over staten island new york.

it's named after 23 new york city police officers who lost their lives on september 11th. the crew performed a rooftop rescue in a flooded neighborhood. they helped five adults and a child trapped get out of their house. around the nation, the united states border patrol they say an attempt to illegally cross into arizona was a huge failure. you can see why. the suspected smugglers tried to drive this jeep over a 14- foot high border fence using a makeshift ramps. patrolling agents saw it and the jeep got stuck. the suspects ran back into mexico and agents removed the jeep. they have received it as well as the ramp. a fight for a parking spot took a dangerous turn. a 65-year-old man jumped on the hood of another car. the driver was inside that car. the whole thing caught on tape. now it turns out evelyn denese said harold coaler got out of control when he got out to get

a parking spot. denese keyed her car. he confronted her. as she tried to drive away he jumped on the hood of her car. she drove with him on the car for about 300 yards. she was arrested. the u.s. supreme court is taking up the issue of drug sniffing dogs. justices are trying to decide if those police k-9s k-9s can justify searches of homes and cars. one case involved a search where officers conducted surveillance outside a private residence and then went on to the porch before getting a warrant. recent studies raised questions about the accuracy of k-9 drug alerts and that decision isn't expected for a couple months but it is being taken up today. do you remember how much you paid the last time you filled up your gas or four years ago. it was a lot less, and that is why you might have to shell out a lot less if you go to a particular place. we're going to tell you today why it's going to be just like it was in 2008. we have details on that

snow showers across northwestern and southwestern pa this morning. west virginia still getting snow across that area. closer to home we're still dealing with just mainly cloud cover, a few light showers across the area and throughout the day the clouds for the most part will continue. let's get a check of the abc2 time saver traffic lauren cook. we are still dealing with storm damage in hartford county. if you are traveling in towson be careful on friendship road, some of the other intersections going to be mayhem road at carsins run road and crescent drive. there are no problems on 95 from bel air to white marsh and it will remain clear as you led into the city. as we take a look at 695 here in parkville, hartford road and everything moving right along. no delays towards towson. back to the birthday girl, ms. megan pringle. thank you very much. five days until election day and for many of you it can't

it's 5:43. we weren't completely spared from sandy's destruction but when you look at the images from new york and atlantic new jersey we know we did not get the worst of it. we are sending charlie up to atlantic city this morning, so he's out in our parking lot. you're about to leave, and what's the goal of this trip? what are you hoping to inform people about? >> what we're doing is we want to give people an idea of how close we came to a direct hit. this storm sandy was 900 miles in diameter so when you look at it from the point of view of a radium it was 450 miles and it missed us by 100 miles. here's an idea to give you a clue. this a map quest of where we are relative to atlantic city. we're 150 miles as a drive up to philadelphia and over, but on a direct line we're right about 100 miles from the path of the storm. what our photojournalist and i are going to do today is we're going to hop in the car.

we set our trip odometer down to 0. we're leaving in 5 minutes and we're going to drive to atlantic city just to show you how close and how fortunate we were here in baltimore and this part of maryland to missing this storm. we're going to have reports for you, we're going to have video for you an hour from now to show you what we're seeing along the way up, and then we'll have reports tonight at 5, 6 and 11:00 and megan will have much more again tomorrow morning on good morning maryland. >> we're looking forward to it. thanks so much. we have some all new video to share with you. this from hurricane sandy as it hit new york. abc2's sherrie johnson joins us this morning. it's pretty incredible. >> reporter: this time life video captures sandy's wrath on new york city in a 2-minute clip. take a look at this video that we found on youtube. it condenses super storm sandy's strike on new york city. you can see the williamsburg

bridge, the time lapse video covers two days from october 29 october 29th until october 30 october 30th and a very long night of the storm. the clip shows the darkening sky, the intensity of the wind as the water becomes choppy with swells, then the rain and finally the loss of power to part of the city. the rainfall is so heavy at times that the manhattan skyline almost disappears from view, and as night falls the power goes out, a rough night for many residents. and many are returning home to total devastation, some areas still don't have power, and there are long lines for gas and some hospitals are struggling to stay open and operate, sherrie johnson abc2 news. 5:46 right now, five things you may want to know. amtrak plans to restore some serviced to following sandy. it's going to run trains between boston and connecticut and they're still trying to remove the water from the tunnels in new york city and trains are expected to have slow running limited service starting tomorrow. in the wake of sandy, two
